Blanch Point Maslin Beach

This is Blanche Point at Maslin Beach, South Australia.

This local landmark is best photographed on the shortest day of the year. The sun lights up the faces of the cliffs for only a few days. The best light is of course, late afternoon.

Persistence and patience finally paid off with this image.

A wide angle lens is the best, a good tripod for a slow shutterspeed to get the movement in the sea.

Logs and Waterfall

These logs were at the base of a waterfall, a medium lens and a slow shutterspeed, with the camera on a sturdy tripod, produced this result.

Be careful with your exposure, as too long can leave the water washed out and with no detail.

Sharpness is still a very important factor with these images, so don't forget to take plenty of exposures.

Seagull and Chip

Great fun getting seagulls to take a chip from my hand.

A wide angle lens focused on the chip, high shutter speed, and a small f Stop, lots of patience and don't forget a big bag of chips.

Seagulls, like most birds, like to fly into the wind. This helps them hover and manoeuvre so as to take the chip from my hand. Watchout they can be a little aggressive.

Seascape at Sunrise

This image is really three images

The three images were taken using different exposures, so as to allow for the difference in the dynamic range. They were then layered together the clouds and the coastline and then the sea.

This is known as High Dynamic Range.

So watch those Histograms...always expose to the extreme right.

Hibiscus in water

This image was done by placing the Hibiscus in a very shallow black plasic tray. When photographing the flower, I made ripples in the water by splashing my fingers near the edge.

Dangerous Rocks

The early light was highlighting the waves in the background a headland was in shadow, the contrast was just what I was looking for.
